I was with some friends yesterday. As we talked, we spoke about some of our past struggles. One
of my friends shared about a death in his close family, another shared
about employment loss and I related my heart attack and employment
struggles.
As we spoke, we noticed how much easier it is to endure hard times
when you are surrounded by those who love you. Being alone is truly the
worst thing. For
me, I can remember the words of encouragement, the stubborn commitment
of many to stay by my side and the generosity of those who kept us from
complete
ruin. They could not “solve” all of my problems. But, they were
determined to make sure I did not face those conflicts alone. The
further I move from those troubled times and into a season of great
peace, purpose and joy, the more I am grateful for those who would not
leave
me alone. To this day many of them not only continue to walk with me,
but they help me to help others. With them there is no "compassion
fatigue." Wow. We cannot solve all of the problems our friends
encounter. We can make certain they do not face them alone.
